Like food on your face
Telling someone about broken links on their blog is kind of like whispering to a friend that they've got a bit of spinach between their teeth or jelly at the corner of their mouth. It's a little embarrassing for both of you momentarily (that is, if you're a perfectionist or hate confrontation), but then you're really glad they told you, so no one else notices. And it's really not a big deal. Just helpful and caring, if done in the right way.
Fortunately, it's a lot easier to fix the links than to make sure the food is gone without a mirror.
