I know my passions
Some of them, anyway. I have a deep passion for my husband. For chocolate. For purple. For spelling. For accuracy. Passion for 100% fruit juice. Passion for the truth. For reality. For order, cleanliness. For marital faithfulness. A passion for a capella harmony. Watching movies. For the Francophone. For email. For pleasing people. Hiking. For blogging, and pink flowers.
God created chocolate to delight our taste buds.
Rosemary to delight our noses.
Four-fold chords to delight our ears.
Fuchsia plants to delight our eyes.
Warm water to delight our skin.
Human bodies to delight our spouses.
He created the Bible to delight and nourish our souls, our hearts, as we discover Him within the pages. (Will I?)
And He was not created at all. Yet He is the Delight of all our senses when we dedicate them to searching for Him.
May my passions be redirected so as to gain more Delight. May I see through the little delights He's scattered throughout my life, to the Source. May each one cause a sharp intake of breath as I realize, as I remember, Who is handing it to me. Who designed it for me. Who watches me carefully to see my reaction. Do I know where it came from? Do I know who put it in my path? Will I look up at Him and smile knowingly?
Why do I not purposefully attribute each joy to the real author? Why is it so easy to enjoy and not Enjoy? I think in part because I have an enemy, who is perfectly content with me using all the good things in life as long as I do not see Where they are spouting from. Camouflage and veils make him happy. Shallow sight satisfies him. Don't dig too deep, he says. Just enjoy. But God says, go as deep as you can. Find out all you can. You'll find Me at the bottom, the sides, the top, the back.
And don't forget to nourish your insides, that larger part of you, the less obvious 95% of yourself.
Take all of me, Creator of pleasure. Creator of endless merriment and complete fulfillment. Make me taste You, taste and see that You are Good and Better than Life. Hook me on Substantial Nourishment. These days it is more common for me to go several days without taking in your Word than half a day without chocolate. I am clearly confused and have forgotten the Greater Pleasure, the more satisfying meal.
No one knows the day or the hour. People get ready. Make me ready. Thank God, it's Your life-blood that does it.

And in the reading of this post I find you seeking Him, so give yourself a break. He knows exactly what is going on with you right this second, and He loves you sans question, sans doute. Even when you are preoccupied and wandering in the wrong direction. Because of His love and your love for Him, He will find you, even when you are forgetting to seek Him. He knows your heart.
